Capturing Lunar Beauty: A Look at the Moon through a Telescope and Beyond

Science Spotlight: The Moon

On Monday, March 25th, a stunning lunar eclipse occurred. Alexandra, our intern, along with her sister Ariana seized the opportunity to capture amazing photos of the moon using their telescope. The pictures turned out so well that one of them was even used in this thumbnail. Thanks to Ariana for her stunning shots!

Despite its beauty, how much do we really know about the moon? The moon was formed as a result of a collision that took place around 4.5 billion years ago. That’s not all – Earth is not the only planet in our solar system that has moons. Jeff St. Clair has more information on this topic if you’re interested in learning more.

Here are some discussion questions to ponder:

1. What do you believe the moon is made of?

2. Have you ever observed the moon during the day? If so, what did it look like to you?

3. If given the chance to travel to the moon, what items would you choose to bring along with you?
