Economic Inequality in the Time of Crisis: Reflections on Teaching MBA and Executive Students

A cooperative economy: a sustainable solution for an unstable system

In the midst of lockdown isolation in northern Italy during the COVID-19 pandemic, I took a moment to reflect on my experience teaching MBA and executive students for many years. The pandemic, along with social unrest and environmental degradation, highlighted the flaws in our current economic framework.

It became clear to me that our economic system was no longer adequate as it had allowed a select few major platforms and Big Tech companies to manipulate it for their own benefit while disregarding the well-being and prosperity of others. As a business school professor, I questioned how we could address these issues.

As I contemplated the broken economic system and its consequences for society and the environment, I realized that changes were necessary. The current structures in place were unsustainable and harmful in the long run. It was time for a shift in thinking and action to ensure a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
