From Video Game to Theme Park: How Dragon Ball Z is Transforming Entertainment in Cologne and Saudi Arabia

The first Dragon Ball Z theme park in the world is being constructed in Saudi Arabia.

In Cologne, Germany, visitors got a first look at the latest version of Dragon Ball Z Kakarot at the 2019 Gamescom gaming trade fair. The popular video game franchise drew in crowds eager to try out the newest features and gameplay elements.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, plans are underway for the development of the first-ever Dragon Ball Z theme park. This 5.3 million square foot entertainment venue is part of the kingdom’s Qiddiya project, a massive undertaking aimed at enhancing tourism and diversifying the economy.

The Dragon Ball Z theme park will feature seven different areas inspired by locations from the original anime series. With over 30 themed rides, including five world-first attractions, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Dragon Ball Z like never before. One standout ride, the Shenron roller coaster, will soar to heights of 230 feet, providing an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers.

In addition to the theme park, a collaboration between Japan-based manga producer Toei Animation and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s foundation, MiSK, is set to create anime movies that will captivate audiences worldwide. The kingdom’s investment in video games and anime reflects a growing interest in these forms of entertainment.
