Hyundai and Kia Dominate Prestigious Automotive Awards in 2024

At the New York Auto Show, the Kia EV9 takes home the 2024 titles for World Car of the Year and World Electric Car.

The Hyundai Group has been dominating prestigious vehicle awards, particularly in the electric vehicle category. In 2024, the Kia EV9 won the World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle awards, while the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N secured the World Performance Car title.

Judged by a panel of one hundred automotive journalists from 29 countries, vehicles competing for the main prize must have production exceeding 10,000 units annually, be available in at least two major global markets, and be priced below luxury options in their regions. The EV9 beat out competitors like BYD Seal and Volvo EX30 for the top title.

In addition to winning these prestigious titles, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also took home multiple awards in 2022. Meanwhile, its sibling model, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, won similar accolades in 2023.

The Kia EV9 surpassed vehicles like BMW i5 and Volvo EX30 in the electric vehicle category. Other winners included BMW’s 5 Series and i5 for World Luxury Car and Volvo’s EX30 for World Urban Car. Meanwhile, Toyota surprised everyone by winning the 2024 World Car Design of the Year award with their Prius model, beating out finalists like Ford’s Bronco and Ferrari’s Purosangue.
