Saginaw Businesses Struggle with Unexpected Road Closures: Hand Dipped Ice Cream and Gratiot Avenue Face Challenges Amidst Construction

Saginaw Business Frustrated by Lengthy Intersection Closure

A Saginaw family-owned ice cream shop, Hand Dipped Ice Cream on Sheridan Avenue, is facing frustration during its peak season due to an unexpected intersection closure. On Monday, March 25, construction began on the intersection of Sheridan Avenue and Hess Avenue, which will last until Aug. 9. The closure has caused concerns for local businesses that rely on traffic at the intersection.

Fred Temple, who works at Hand Dipped Ice Cream, expressed his frustration with the closure and the extended timeline for the project. He believes there could have been a better way to conduct the project without disrupting businesses in the area. Despite this setback, Temple remains hopeful and encourages customers to visit the ice cream shop and enjoy their products. They offer a variety of treats including tacos, tostadas, and 30 flavors of ice cream. Temple also mentioned plans for Fourth of July fireworks and hopes that the road closure will not deter customers from visiting the shop.

In addition to the closure at Sheridan and Hess Avenues, Gratiot Avenue (M-46) is also closed between Malzahn Street and Wheeler Street in Saginaw until Friday afternoon, March 29 due to utility work. This combination of road closures is causing inconvenience for commuters and businesses in the area.
