Scarlett Johansson to Join Jurassic World Reboot with July Release Date

Scarlett Johansson in Negotiations for Role in Universal’s ‘Jurassic World’ Film Directed by Gareth Edwards

The news of Scarlett Johansson’s involvement in the Gareth Edwards-directed Jurassic World reboot at Universal has been circulating for some time now. However, recent reports suggest that the project is moving forward, with a July 2, 2025 release date. David Koepp, who adapted the first Jurassic Park from Michael Crichton’s classic novel, is currently working on the latest iteration of Jurassic World.

Johansson’s time at Marvel resulted in a legal dispute over the 2021 pandemic release of Black Widow, which was ultimately settled between her and Disney. This new project puts Johansson in business with another major movie franchise.

The original trilogy actors Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill are not expected to return to the new film. However, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard may make a comeback as well. The new movie is a fresh take on the Jurassic era but will have different cast members than previous films.

Steven Spielberg through Amblin Entertainment is executive producing the film along with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing through Kennedy-Marshall. EVP Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the production at Universal. The Jurassic Park franchise has grossed $5.67 billion at the global box office over its 30-year history. The original 1993 film directed by Spielberg was followed by two sequels – The Lost World (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001). In 2015, Universal revived the franchise with Jurassic World followed by Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Dominion (2022).
