Stephon Gilmore: A Veteran With a Passion for Football Considers Return to the Panthers

Report: Panthers have made contact with Stephon Gilmore

The Panthers may be looking to add some veteran experience to their secondary as they have reportedly reached out to Stephon Gilmore about rejoining the team. Gilmore, who is 33 years old, played for the Panthers during the latter part of the 2021 season after being traded by the Patriots for a sixth-round pick. During his time with the Panthers, he appeared in nine games with eight starts, recording 16 total tackles and two interceptions.

After his stint with the Panthers, Gilmore signed a two-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts and started in all 16 games in 2022. In 2023, he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys where he also started in all 17 games, playing 94 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. Gilmore, who was the No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 draft, has played for several teams throughout his career including the Bills, Patriots, Colts, and Cowboys. In total, he has played in 165 games and has recorded 140 career passes defensed along with 31 interceptions.

Gilmore is ranked at No. 51 on PFT’s list of top 100 free agents and could bring a valuable veteran presence to the Panthers’ secondary if a deal comes to fruition. It remains to be seen if Gilmore will decide to return to his former team or if he will continue on his journey through professional football elsewhere.
