National Action Plan on Responsible Business Conduct Unveiled by State Department

The U.S. government has unveiled its 2024 National Action Plan on Responsible Business Conduct, which highlights its commitment to promoting green energy, human rights, countering corruption, technology usage, protecting human rights defenders, and advancing gender equality. The plan is divided into four main areas of focus.

The first priority area involves the creation of a federal advisory committee on responsible business conduct. The State Department will collaborate with the private sector, academia, civil society, and other stakeholders to strengthen responsible business practices. This will be achieved through consultation and engagement with key players in the business community.

In the second focus area, the Department of Defense will review the possibility of requiring or encouraging membership in the International Code of Conduct Association for Private Security Providers’ Association for vendors. By implementing this strategy, the U.S. government aims to promote ethical practices within the private security industry.

The third priority area emphasizes the importance of businesses conducting human rights due diligence across their value chains following international standards. By implementing these priorities and strategies outlined in the plan, the U.S. government aims to promote responsible business conduct and uphold ethical practices within the business sector.

Finally, in the fourth focus area, resources will be provided to businesses to support them in implementing responsible business practices. This includes access to training programs and technical assistance from experts in various fields such as sustainability and human rights management.

Overall, this plan underscores the U.S government’s dedication towards promoting responsible business conduct while also ensuring that companies adhere to ethical standards. By working closely with businesses and other stakeholders alike, this action plan seeks to create a more sustainable future where businesses operate ethically and responsibly towards people and planet alike.
